A prayer meeting will be held at St Stephens Church, Mukhathala, under the aegis of the Antioch Faith Protection Council on December 13. Addressing a news conference on Saturday, Rev. Fr Punnoose Tharakan and convener of the Faith Protection Council Rev. Fr Sabu Samuel said the Devalokam Group members had been spreading falsehood about the St Stephens Church at Kureepally, Mukhathala.
They said according to a title deed registered on October 25, 1894, at the Eravipuram sub-registrar office, the St Stephens Church was constructed only for those who had been following the faith and traditions of the Jacobite Church and those who were loyal to the Patriarch of Antioch. They said the title-deed had clearly stated that if the descendents of those founders of the church were to give up the faith in the Jacobite church and act against the Patriarch of Antioch, they would not have the right to worship at this church and raise any claim on the churchs assets.
They pointed out that the Kollam District Court had forbidden the Devalokam Group members from entering the church and conducting prayers in the church in a judgment pronounced on an appeal on July 1, 1967.
The December 13 prayer meeting will be held at 10 a.m.Metropolitan H.E Elias Mor Athanasios will lead the sacrament. Catholicos Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I will inaugurate the meeting.
