BJP to form forum for amicable solution
Friday February 1 2008, the NEW INDIAN EXPRESS

KOCHI: At a time when the Jacobite and Orthodox factions are taking on each other, the Bharatiya Janata Partys Minority Morcha is keen on flying the doves of peace among them.

The Minority Morcha, the minority cell of the BJP, has come up with an adalat committee to resolve the age-old dispute between the Jacobite and Orthodox factions.

The Minority Morcha will form a nine-member adalat committee with the help of YWCA and Indian Christian Movement.

The two fronts in Kerala have been using the disputes between the two factions for gaining political mileage, said BJP state general secretary A N Radhakrishnan in Kochi on Thursday.

There are around 1500 churches belonging to the Jacobite and Orthodox factions and 45 of them are in dispute.

The number of churches which were closed down after disputes stands at 15 and a handsome amount from both factions is being wasted on conducting cases.

If used for the welfare of the church members, the amount would have fetched big achievements, he said. It was against this backdrop that the Minority Morcha has decided to form a platform for settling the issue amicably.

The nine member forum will have three persons from each side and the remaining three will be selected from a ten-member panel to be presented by the Minority Morcha.

The ten-member panel will include renowned personalities like Justice K T Thomas, Justice James, Justice M R Hariharan Nair , former Chief Secretary Babu Paul, P C Alexander and M V Pylee.

We have already held talks with all those persons except P C Alexander, said Radhakrishnan.

The Indian Christian Movement and the YMCA will undertake the day-today management of the adalat committee. The committee will study the individual cases of disputed churches and find a solution to the different cases on a time-bound manner.

The decision of the committee should not be challenged by either factions in any courts.

Minority Morcha has submitted a proposal before the two factions in this regard and it is awaiting a favourable reply from them, Minority Morcha state president K V Sabu said.
