INDIAN Ambassador George Joseph has said he considered his present assignment in Doha as a pilgrimage mission. He was addressing a gathering at the foundation stone laying ceremony of a church at Abu Hamour yesterday, for members of the Knanaya Syrian Jacobite Church of Kerala.

Lauding the Qatar government for allowing non-Muslims to build places of worship, Joseph said the decision would be appreciated all over the world. The ambassador also recalled the initiatives Qatar has taken in the last four years to hold inter-religious talks, inviting top representatives of Muslims, Christians and Jews every year.

Knanaya Syrian Jacobite Archbishop Kuraikose Mor Seavriose laid the foundation stone for the church. Mar Sevariose thanked Qatar for permitting Christian communities to set up places of worship.
He handed over the letter of intent for construction to Lukose Chacko.

The archbishop was on a two-day visit and left for home last night.

Representatives of other Christian denominations also attended the function.
