      Braving heavy rain people from all walks of life, including cops, bid a tearful adieu to ASI M C Elias at Nalunnakkal, Vakathanam near here, on Monday.

      The body of the cop, whose end came amid dealing with campus unrest at Changanassery on Friday, was interred at the cemetery of the St Adai�s Jacobite Church around 12.30 pm after religious rites and ceremonies and according of official honour.

      Along with a grief-stricken Suja, the cop�s wife, and Sherin, Akhil and Sneha, her children, the entire village fell into a sense of loss. PWD Minister Mons Joseph placed a wreath on the body, on behalf of the government. Additional DGP Netto Desmond and IG Vincen M.Paul led the team of mourners from the police, and paid their last respect. Kochi City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham was also present.Jacobite Church Synod secretary Joseph Mor Gregorios, Niranam diocese metropolitan Geevarghese M0r Koorilose and Kananaya Jacobite Archbishop Kuriakose Mor Sevarios led the funeral services at Elias� residence. The body was moved in a cortege to the nearby church, where Catholicos Baselios Thomas I led the final course of the funeral services.After the ceremonial gun salute posted by AR Camp SI Kuriachan and 11 colleagues, the body was interred at the Anakkalumkal family vault at the cemetery. Opposition leader Oommen Chandy, K.Suresh Kurup MP, MLAs C F Thomas, K C Joseph, N.Jayaraj and V N Vasavan, District Collector Sharmilla Mary Joseph, former minister V M Sudheeran, district panchayat president K P Sugunan and vice-president Sudha Kurien attended the funeral.

      Chaganassery archbishop Mar Joseph Perumthottam offered prayers at the house in the morning. Former minister K M Mani, accompanied by N Jayaraj MLA, reached the house in the evening and offered condolences.
