  • Hi Gina........thank you for your post. Socha is pronounced "so ca".......the "so" is short and the "ca" is sounded a little longer. We know........or at least we think we know......that our branch of the Socha family only settled in Texas. There was never any family discussion about relatives in another state. Of course, I never knew my great-grandfather and so if he had knowledge...

  • Hi........Just reading this post about ship records have inspired me to try again for the BIG search. I have been able to locate my maternal GGgrandparents with last name Gerla and also some others. However, even tho I have the passport for my gggrandparents named Josef Krumpholz I have never been able to find a ship record for them. They lived in Mahren. Also never have found...

  • I absolutely agree with Frank. Everyone needs to follow the way he so aptly described the process. Showing the changes in footnotes is an excellent way to do that but each person can devise a similar method. We all need to remember we are the caretakers of our family history. And it is an honorable profession. Jan Sent from my iPhone On Aug 31, 2013, at 7:50 PM, "Frank R Plichta...

  • Why don't you give us her name & details. Who knows? Someone may know something. It's worth a shot. Dumb luck kicks in every now and then! • Hello Vilo........... I am probably not giving you the info you are seeking regarding magnification on Mozilla because my solution is too simple. If you go to File and click page preview you have a chance to change the image size. On the "Shrink to fit" tab click and you can change magnification up to 200%. If you don't want to print, then just close that window. Also under Tools...

  • Hello............. Thanks to those who have responded. Evidently I did not make my request clear. I apologize for that. What I am searching for is this: Was there a war in Moravia between 1863 and 1873?? Or was there a Moravian army that my great-grandfather could have been inducted in?? Or would there have been an Austrian-Hungarian army that he was in?? This is the information I...

  • Hello Listers......... My cousin and I have been researching our great-grandfather Adolf/Adolph Socha for many years and have been unable to pinpoint just exactly where he emigrated from in 1873. We have never found a passenger list on him. We believe he arrived in New Orleans. Family lore tells us this fact: ...."that Grandpa Adolph Socha served in the War in Europe before he...
