Re: Surnames Pavlak and Kubala
- ahoj Melinda,
I didn't have time to read your entire message.
Will research the latter part later.
In 1907, Piotasz? Pavlak, age 31, farm laborer, married, had
emigrated to Brownsville Fayette CO PA.
His Last Residence was Lanzsásötfalu (H) = Horka (Sk)
His birthplace was Trszkna ? (Hungarian).
The best match is Trsztena (H) formerly Trsztená/Trste^nná ,
now Trstena (Sk) located near Z^ilina in western Slovakia.
The Slovakia telephone directory lists 1 surname Pavl'ák under
The passenger above him on ship manifest was Katalin (Catherine)
Kubalya, age 18, maid servant, single, born in Lanzsásötfalu, Hungary.
This looks the same as Maria's surname (Kubala, Kubalya)
In 1910, Maria and 2 children (Maria, age 6, Piotos, age 4) had
emigrated to Coaltown PA. All three were born Lanzsásötfalu/Horka.
Their Last Residence read Satsoflv.
Probably it was Svábfalva (H) S^vábovce (Sk) which is located just
east of Horka.
Coaltown located in which county PA ?
More than one such place name in PA..
Given name Piotos looks Greek.
Perhaps first name of ftaher and son was István (Stephen)
The diminutive form of this Magyar given name is Pista, Pisti.
What was surnames religion ?
