Re: [S-R] Bovoszlo/Brestov, Slovakia RC church records
- Hi Marge,
In researching LDS films in Poland and Slovakia, it does not really hinder
you with the language. with the records you most likely will order, the
records will be mostly in Latin except for the period when Hungary ruled and
inforced their language on all records. i found this aspect to be brief as
far as church records are concerned, Latin is the main one.
all church ledgers are basically set up the same. there will be columns of
data. starts off with column one being date of birth, column two being the
date of baptism, column three being the given name of the child, then the
sex, legitimacy, parents' names, village of origin, godparents' names etc.
so once you figure out the columns (LDS family history centers will usually
have some material on how to read these in the language), you can usually
figure it out. it becomes second nature to you.
Harder it is to find the villages and order the correct film. once you have
the correct film, the language is the least of your problems. At least the
Latin, Polish and Hungarian are not too difficult. Russian would be hard,
