THOUGHT YOU MIGHT ENJOY A MOMENT OF LAUGHTER!
THIS WAS PRINTED IN "PIONEER TRAILS" APRIL 1997
OCUPAYSHUN-- CENCUS TAKER
"I am a cencus takers for the city of Bufflow. Our City has groan very fast in resent yeers & now in 1865, it has become a hard & time consuming job to count all the peephill. There are not many that con do this werk, as it is necessarie to have a ejucashun, wich a lot of pursons steal do not have. Anuther atribeart needed for this job is a god speling, for meny of the peephill can hardle speek inglish, let alon spel there names!"
Most folk at that time that wrote down the census and for many other
records, just wrote what they heard and that is how they did their spelling.
I have a grandmother whose name was Jean and she was put as "Gene" on a
birth certificate and had a granddaughter named after her with that
spelling-My grandmother was highly educated for a woman of her time and that
is not how she spelled her name. Things were different then. Takes some
imagination sometimes to put all the pieces together!
Peace & Joy,
Don't be discouraged, Moses was a basket case at one time.
