Subject: [S-R] TOROK, TEREK, TUROK
My mothers side of the family is from the town of Pcoline. It seems that there are two places of origin for the Slovak Terek families One is in Pcoline the other is in Pohorala(not sure if I spelled that right).
I had to leave the genealogical work to people in my group that understood the languages in the Pcoline censuses. I have been told that my Tereks began as Toroks in 1809 in Pcoline and the name changed pheneticaly over 3 or 4 generations.
In the Pcoline census of 1772 I saw there Tereks in Pcoline years before the Toroks arrived there. I believe there were three names. I was told they went to yugoslavia. I believe the region in yugoslavia is called Voivodina.
There were Turok families once in Pcoline. I am told we are related. They moved to the Ukraine as a part of a relocation program from what I understand. I wonder if the Turok were once Torok too? I can see how it could happen. Any Turoks out there have family photos? I wonder if our families have similar faces?
I live in the Toronto area. If anyone wants to get together around toronto to swap family stories contact me: mailto:coolkeytool%40yahoo.ca

- Hello Milan,my great grandmother(Alžbeta) maiden name was Terek. Her father was Jan Terek(dont know year of birth, probably 1870s). They lived in the village Lalit(Bačka region, Vojvodina)..Surname Terek or Török also exist in Rusyn(Greek Catholic) village Mikluševci in Slavonija(Croatia) and in Subotica(Bačka region, Vojvodina).
