I have a piece of software called Hungarian Village Finder, which claims to have the names of all villages and towns in the Kingdom of Hungary. I've just looked up Amaza and Kolosa; neither one is there by exactly that name, but there are, for example, two towns with the name Kolos and one called Kolosso. Similarly, there are towns that look as though they could have been written as Amaza.

Sorry; I have to dash out right now. If you'd like more information on what i've found, let me know. Someone else may have better information, though.

      Sue

In the past 2 months of searching, I have come up with NOTHING about my grandparents' lives before coming to the U.S. I have searched most of the sites that have been listed here for the places which my GP's wrote as their hometowns, and have come up empty. Does anyone know how to find the present names for cities from the mid-late 1800's in Hungary? GM's hometown listed on GP's Declaration of Intent as Amaza, Hungary and GF's as Kolosa, Hungary. 1910 census lists birthplace as Austria-Hungary for both. Complicating the search is that their surname spellings were obviously changed - to Lepi and Valochik - and I don't know what they were originally. I don't know their parents' names, but census papers list their birthplace also as Austria-Hungary. W/o village name and original name spellings, is it a lost cause finding them?
