            Bob,
Both books are now out of print but available on the remainders market. Both are available online from places like amazon.com or out of print sources like abe.books.com . These are academic books so prices will be high-- $100.00 plus.

I have a copy of Slovakia in History. It is a high quality collection of essays, each by a specialist in their own area, covering the emergence of the Slovak nation from early times to the present. It was prepared and edited by the head of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and a professor at Cambridge university. Extraordinary book, but as with all such collections is somewhat uneven.

            Curt B.

I have see this book and was interested in adding it to my Slovak history book collection. I have five or six now.
A hard to find very concise book is People of the Word: A Synopsis of Slovak History by Thomas Klimek Ward. Only 125 pages, a synopsis.
Then there is one that seems to be the most popular – A History of Slovakia by Stanislav J. Kirschbaum.
My first “academic” book was Slovakia: From Samo to Dzurinda by Peter A. Toma and Dusan Kovac. The first chapter covers from Samo to modern times. So the book is more a history in the 19th and 20th centuries. Very detailed in 361 pages.
I asked my relatives what book they used for Slovak history. They said when they need to study for the history exams they used Slovak History: Chronology & Lexicon. Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers have it by ISBN 0-86516-444-4. The chronology section goes by years and what happened in Slovak history. The lexicon is an alphabetical listing of people and events in Slovak history.
The last book I bought was Illustrated Slovak History: A Struggle for Sovereignty in Central Europe by Anton Spiesz and Dusan Caplovic. A wonderful book to have because of the “illustration”s/photographs. Another 350+ page book that gives a lot of detail on Slovak history. Bolchazy-Carducci Publishing has it.

A wonderful book to have because of the “illustrations/photographs. Another 350+ page book that gives a lot of detail on Slovak history. Bolchazy-Carducci Publishing has it.

Hi Curt. The "Slovakia in History" book is not-of-print. It was just published this year. I have borrowed a copy from the U. Of Wyoming and am reading it today while it rains outside. So far, so good.
                            Thanks for your note,
                            Bob

It is a high quality collection of essays, each by a specialist in their own area, covering the emergence of the Slovak nation from early times to the present. It was prepared and edited by the head of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and a professor at Cambridge university. Extraordinary book, but as with all such collections is somewhat uneven.
