      Michael,
Thank you so much for the information! I started with a marriage that I knew the date, and found it! The info on how to read the records is invaluable. So glad I found this group:)

      Jean,

      Welcome to the group.

You have the first vital piece of information for record search location. The second is their religious affiliation, since that is how the records are recorded.

http://www.iabsi.com/gen/public/toolbox.htm On this page is a heading Family History Library. Under it is Pilot (Help). Click on help to learn how to operate the online site

Bardejov Roman Catholic and Evangelical (Lutheran) records are on line - http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=waypoint&s=waypointsOnly&c=fs%3A1670491&w=0 Click on the Roman Catholic link and scroll down to Bardejov. Do the same for Evangelical.

Lipany records are also online. There are Roman Catholic and Greek Catholic records. The Lipany records can be under the names of Dacov, Lipany, Hethars and Decso.

Raslavice has Roman Catholic records online. Under Uhorske Raslavice, Nizne Raslavice and Magyar-Raszlavica.

Once you view records you will well understand the phrase, Its all Greek to me. http://homepages.bmi.net/~latin/ Go here and you will understand the heading under which records were recorded. Most of the time you will find them in Latin and Hungarian.

      This should get you started.

      .

      Hi,

I'm new to the group and am at a complete loss in this geographic area. Am trying to fill in the family tree on my children's father's side of the family.

The information I have is: Andrew E Yaskovic (b 1908 Yonkers, NY, USA) father is Josef Joskovics (b 23 Mar 1873, Bardejov, Slovakia), (Josef Jaskewicz, ethnicity: RussPoland; last place of residence (blank); date of arrival: 27 Apr 1892; age at arrival: 19 yrs.; gender M; ship of travel: Devonia; port of departure: Glasgow via Moville), his father Josef Jokovics (b ca 1841, Raslavice, Slovakia) (d unknown) married (30 Apr 1872, Bardejov, Slovakia) Anna Caverdely (bpt. 06 Feb 1851, Bardejov, Czechoslovakia) (d unknown). Josef Jokovics (1873) had a brother Andrew that was bpt. 1874 in Raslavice, Slovakia. Josef married (1902, Yonkers, NY, USA) Julianna Kuroc (b 12 Jul 1882 Lipany, Slovakia), her parents Andrew Kuracz (b unknown) and Maria Stroncer (b unknown) married 1865 Lipany, Czechoslovakia. Maria's parents Istvan Stroncer (b unknown) and Maria Csak (b unknown) married 14 Oct 1846 Lipany, Czechoslovakia.

What I would like to know is where I should look for records for the Bardejov, Raslavice, and Lipany areas of Slovakia for the time period of about 1840 to 1895. Any information would be greatly appreciated:)

      Jean
