Re: [SLOVAK-ROOTS] NYC Death Index
You would have to know which borough she died in, as the Death Indexes
are organized by boroughs (Manhattan, Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), Queens
and Richmond (Staten Island) all on one film. If you don't know which
borough you would have to search each individual section of the film.
"NYC" is often used to describe Manhattan of course, but this is what
tends to confuse researchers in this area... you have to specify whether
you mean Manhattan or another borough.
If you know the date of death, or even the month and year, you would
still have to know the borough to request the death cert from the
Municipal Archives in Manhattan. They charge $10 for one name in one
year in one borough, add $2 for each additional borough or year to
I have some Death Indexes for NYC area on loan, but not one for 1922.
You can order these indexes via your local FHC. use film # 1324918 which
is the death index for 1918-1921 to bring up the whole entry in the LDS
catalog either online or at your FHC.
Researching in the NYC area (boroughs) can be tricky, but in general the
area is well filmed by the LDS and of course NY state had off year
censuses since 1855 which is great for finding people. If you are doing
a lot of searching in any of the boroughs you might want to join the
wonderful NYC list, send subscribe to NYC-ROOTS-L-request@...
or change the L to D for digest. It's a busy list, but wonderful people
on it, and lots of help there.
Hope this helps you.
