      Rick,

Thanks for the note. I have not been able to connect other Medvecz with my lineage, but if you go back far enough, there could be a connection. My gr-grandfather, Janos Medvecz, immigrated in 1890. He first went to Streator, IL like many Slovaks did at that time. Then, there was the migration to the Cambridge coal fields. My gr-grandfather settled in Trail Run, Ohio and died there at age of 43 from a mining accident in 1912. Descendents from Janos all changed the name to Medvitz, Bear, Bare, or Baer. I am not aware of any of his siblings coming to America.

Are you from the Pittsburgh area? I noticed 3 rivers. My Father, Johnny Baer, did the early morning show on KDKA radio. He was the "singing cowboy" and played guitar and sang live on the air in 1934 -1936. As we know, the Slovaks were/are very musical. But, somehow, I broke the tradition!

      Phil (Medvecz) Baer

      Hello Phil

Noticing your name Medvecz. There is a Medvec family in my community. The
original spelling is with Medvecz, like yours.
