<< Due to the political changes, beginning with the 1920 U.S. Census,
the term Slovakland was used to denote surname Slovak ethnicity. >>
A great gift came to my mother on her 80th birthday - a copy of a US census -
think it was 1920 that showed her father and mother and she and her siblings
- and the parents who came from Moravske Slovatsko - Moravian Slovakia -
actually Moravia and now the Czech Republic were listed as from "Slovakoland"
This gave us great pleasure !!! Some say this region was once part of
Slovakia long ago or the region that was Slovakia. Of course it was all
hooked together in the Great Moravian Empire in the 8th and 9th centuries;
now I hear it sometimes spoken of as the Great Slovak Empire. SMILE! It was
something speical in any case!
