I am trying to do some geneology on my husband's families.
His families are: Kalanevich, Kendra, Misto and Zamba.

We do know that the Kalanevich's come from Austria-Hungary in the
      early 1900's.

The other names are purely Slovak. Kendra and Misto's came in the
1800's (unfortunately, we have no idea how many generations back).

All 4 of my husband's grandparents' families settled in Scranton area
of Pennsylvania ( specifically the town of Freeland).

Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Freeland is located near Hazelton in Luzerne Co PA.

If ancestors settled there, they were probably bituminous (soft)
coal miners living in this NE PA coal mining region.
There was an almost direct pipeline of immigrants from Slovakia
        to the coal mines here.
From the Philadelphia port of entry, it was only a 110 mile train
        ride.

Once scanned the 1900/1910/1920 U.S. Census enumeration microfilms
for the Scranton and Hazelton areas, line by line.
Of course, at the time wasn't looking for your particular surnames.

Kendra and Zambaj are authenicated Slovak surnames from Slovakia
        cenuses.
