Rankovce armchair tour
- More photographs from my grandfather's old neighborhood are on line at http://www.rankovce.host.sk/gal.html
It looks like some kids went hiking up the high hill behind the tiny village of Rankovce and took a camera. There are some interesting boulder outcrops at a place called Rankovske' Skaly (it's actually on the map, at 790 meters high. What's that in feet, as I am disinclined to look it up?
If you go further east and higher up you reach the old mining village of Banske'. This is a low mountain chain called the Slanske' Vrchy. It seems that quartzites from this mine region were known and used for stone tools in the Paleolithic. Fabulous website at http://www.flintsource.net/quart/SK_banske.html
Rankovce was the little town where the church records were kept for Lutherans in the district.
