      Associate

      Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates (N\N) seeks a highly organized,
      independent and motivated Associate planner for its San Francisco office.
      This is an outstanding opportunity for the right person to become involved
      in building N\N's practice, which is focused on multi-modal transportation
      planning for livable communities. N\N's work emphasizes creative,
      innovative
      transit/transportation planning and community involvement, often within a
      wider set of goals such as economic development and reduced dependence on
      the private automobile.


      Responsibilities

      An Associate planner is expected to:

      * Organize and supervise data collection activities in the
      office and the
      field
      * Analyze public transit data (ridechecks, surveys and
      operations)
      * Write sections of reports related to data collection
      activities
      * Prepare Existing Conditions Reports (census, GIS, growth,
      current
      services, etc)
      * Conduct research as needed to assist senior staff on
      projects
      * Assist senior staff with business development proposals
      * Assist with community outreach activities

      Though most of the work will come from projects on the West Coast, there
      will be numerous opportunities for the candidate to contribute to NN
      projects across the United States. Candidates must be willing to travel
      (on
      average 2 overnight stays per month plus numerous day trips) and must have
      a
      valid Driver's License.


      Qualifications

      The ideal candidate should have at least one year of transportation and
      urban planning experience. Experience working at public agencies or
      private
      consulting firms is preferred but not a requirement. At the very least
      the
      candidate must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the basic
      concepts
      in at least two of the following areas:

      * Transportation master planning
      * Transit/shuttle planning and operations
      * Transit facility planning
      * Bike/pedestrian planning
      * Site planning in urban environments
      * Transit Oriented Development
      * Transportation Demand Management
      * Parking Management
      * Multi-modal circulation studies
      * Campus transportation planning

      Candidates should have a B.A./B.S. in urban or transportation planning, or
      a
      related planning field, plus one year of planning experience. Potential
      candidates must demonstrate excellent skills in writing, data analysis,
      oral
      presentation and problem solving. The candidate must be able to
      demonstrate
      basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, and hopefully
      will have some experience with SPSS and/or Microsoft Access. Potential
      candidates may be asked to demonstrate their writing and oral presentation
      skills before a selection panel.


      Salary and Benefits

      All employees are paid an hourly rate. The annual salary range equivalent
      for the position is $45,000 to $50,000, depending on qualifications.
      Benefits include fully paid health and dental insurance, a

      or a related planning field, plus two years of directly related planning
      experience. Candidates who posses only a B.A./B.S. in urban or
      transportation planning will be considered provided they have at least
      three
      years of directly related planning experience.

      Potential candidates must demonstrate excellent skills in writing, data
      analysis, oral presentation and problem solving. The candidate must be
      able
      to demonstrate basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word,
