International Making Cities Livable Conferences
Membership in IMCL & Conference registration rates
The International Making Cities Livable Conferences, initiated in Venice in 1985, are the longest continuing Conferences on urban livability and well-being. They have been called "wonderful conferences, the best conferences on cities" by Charleston's Mayor, Joseph P. Riley Jr.
IMCL Conferences have taken place in Vienna and Salzburg, Austria; Venice and Siena, Italy; London, UK; Freiburg, Germany; San Francisco, Santa Fe, St. Augustine and Charleston in the US; and other cities in Europe and the US with more than 7,500 representatives from cities around the world.
At the June 2004 London Conference there were participants from over twenty countries, including city officials, mayors and councilors from thirty cities, a selection of the world's outstanding architects and planners, especially those concerned with traditional town planning and classical architecture.
Future IMCL Conferences
Future IMCL Conferences are planned for March and April, 2005 in Charleston and San Francisco, and in late June or early July in Venice or Vienna. IMCL Conferences for 2006 are planned for Santa Fe or San Diego in the US, Bath, UK and/or Munich, Germany.
New Membership and Registration Policies
At the their meeting at the London Conference Organizers and the Advisory Board decided to implement new policies regarding IMCL membership and registration, in order to sustain the long-term goals of IMCL:
1. Membership in IMCL is a prerequisite for participation in IMCL Conferences. A few non-members may be admitted; however, their conference fee will be double that of members.
2. Preference will be given to participants and speakers who will commit to participate in the conference dialogue for most of the Conference.
