      ABOUT THE AUTHORITY
      The Santa Clara County Open Space Authority, comprised of eight regular employees, is a small, independent special district located in southern Santa Clara County. Its purpose is to preserve, protect and manage a well-balanced system of urban and non-urban areas of scenic, recreational and agricultural importance.

      ABOUT THE POSITION
      Under direction from the General Manager, the Planner ll performs professional level planning duties in support of the Authority�s open space management program. Responsibilities include researching background information, analyzing and documenting existing environmental conditions, administering capital improvement and site planning projects; oversees consultants; performing specialized illustrative work including mapping and GIS. The position also assists with the planning and design of mitigation, restoration, and enhancement of open space areas; prepares, reviews, and processes environmental documents mandated by Federal and State laws and regulations (CEQA).

      BASIC REQUIREMENTS
      Experience in planning and preserving open space or regional park facilities, conducting site inspections, managing and coordinating grant projects. Preparation and monitoring of project budget estimates and contract documents. Ability to review and evaluate environmental impacts of projects; monitor and evaluate environmental research findings. Understanding of current principals, practices, methods, and techniques used in preserving and improving urban and regional planning. Candidate must have excellent oral and written skills, be able to understand complex oral and written directions and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.

      Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite software. Requires educational equivalent of a Bachelor of Science in urban or regional planning, landscape architecture, natural resource management, environmental planning or closely related field with three years of professional experience in environmental planning, environmental management, or closely related field. General understanding of GIS and knowledge of ARC View a plus. A valid Class C California Driver�s License and a satisfactory driving record are required.

      Work is primarily in the office with occasional visits to the field in mountainous, rural or remote areas.
