Position Description - Senior Real Estate Analyst
The Marcus & Millichap Company has implemented a specialized research
to support its macro and project-specific strategy formulation. This
includes market- and submarket-level analysis, economic and real estate
market forecasting, and transaction underwriting support. The overall
objectives of the program are to create:
§ A competitive advantage through effective analyses and
for the real estate companies that Marcus & Millichap operates
§ An effective support system for specific investment
§ A proactive process to identify emerging real estate
opportunities and to make applied recommendation on investment strategies
The scope of the work includes single-family, multi-family, office/R&D,
industrial and retail disciplines-built on a foundation of global,
and regional economic drivers-in western markets. Marcus & Millichap
operates separate companies specializing in the development, acquisition,
operation, financing and disposition of assets in these property sectors.
Position Overview (Senior Real Estate Analyst)
The senior analyst will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations
of the research group, managing various data sources and libraries,
interacting with users of the department's services, including members of
the senior management team, composing project-specific analysis reports
presenting conclusions of various reports and studies to senior
The individual will also manage projects and resources such as interns.
The individual in this role will work closely with the research director,
consultants and contractors on various group projects and activities,
including data interpretation, forecasting, and reaching conclusions for
various reports and assignments.
To execute the strategy for the research group, the position of senior
analyst has been created. In addition, specialists have been retained as
consultants in the areas of model development and underwriting/analysis.
The senior analyst will manage and expand an in-house infrastructure and
system for the following functions:
§ Consistent economic and demographic analysis and
forecasts as the
basis to predict and monitor demand for real estate by sector
§ Consolidated real estate supply and operating performance
centralized in an efficient repository
§ Web-based library of common data points, reports and
serving all companies
§ Custom supply/demand benchmarks, market scoring systems
type and applications based on the needs of each TMMC entity
§ Custom rent and value growth forecasting models at the
MSA and major
§ Early warning system to detect short-term cyclical shifts
§ Quarterly market and strategy reports for each operating
§ Custom analysis and reporting for specific projects
The position requires a strong understanding of real estate fundamentals,
vital statistics, data sources, data methodology and data management. It
also requires strong writing, communication and presentation skills.
Technical skills including Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and conducting
research on the Internet must be advanced. Experience with statistical
modeling and databases would be helpful.
This position will have frequent interaction with members of the senior
management team and will play a key role in managing the group. It
at least three years of professional experience in real estate and/or
economic research. An advanced degree in economics, real estate, finance
business administration is preferred.
