      POLICY ORGANIZER

      The South Asian Network is seeking an energetic, visionary individual for
      the newly created Policy Organizer position who will develop SAN's policy
      advocacy program and effectively link policy analysis and advocacy to
      community outreach and grassroots organizing within the South Asian
      community.

      Background
      The South Asian Network (SAN) is a grassroots community-based non-profit
      organization based in Artesia, CA dedicated to promoting the health,
      empowerment and solidarity of persons of South Asian origin living in
      Southern California. SAN was founded in 1990 to provide an open forum
      where
      individuals of South Asian origin could gather to discuss social, economic
      and political issues affecting the community, with the goal of raising
      awareness and active involvement and advocacy among community members.
      Together, staff and volunteers have established the only staffed agency in
      Southern California serving South Asians and have created a multilingual,
      culturally appropriate program of direct service, community education and
      advocacy in five areas: immigration, public health, domestic violence,
      hate
      crime/discrimination and civil liberties.

      Policy Organizer Responsibilities
      · Develop policy advocacy campaigns that are informed and driven by the
      South Asian community; · Establish and build coalitions among diverse
      interests, needs, and audiences across Southern California;
      · Assess the impact of various legislative and regulatory proposals on
      immigrants and South Asians;
      · Monitor the implementation of new laws and regulations and advocate for
      effective policies and practices;
      · Conduct legislative and administrative advocacy on behalf of South Asian
      and immigrant communities;
      · Write and disseminate fact sheets, analyses, and other written
      materials;
      · Act as a resource for and provide trainings and technical assistance to
      community organizations, legislative staff, local governments, and media
      outlets.
      · Conduct process and outcome evaluation of policy efforts.

      Qualifications
      · Demonstrated commitment to the South Asian community;
      · Excellent writing, research, and speaking skills;
      · Ability to facilitate broad coalitions and experience working with
      diverse
      communities and audiences;
      · Background in immigration law, immigrants' rights, civil rights, and/or
      health and welfare issues preferred;
      · Experience in legislative advocacy and community organizing preferred;
      · Experience analyzing impact of laws, regulations, and legislative
      proposals preferred;
      · Experience working with immigrant rights organizations and
      community-based
      groups in California preferred;
      · Bilingual a plus;
      · Self-initiated, motivated, well-organized, able to work with minimal
      supervision.
