Subject: FW: PLS POST: URBAN ECOLOGY JOB OPENINGS

      URBAN ECOLOGY, INC.
      OAKLAND, CALFORNIA

      ANNOUNCEMENT OF TWO JOB OPENINGS

      Community Organizer
      California Policy Director

Background: Urban Ecology, a San Francisco Bay Area non-profit, believes that vibrant
neighborhoods are the building blocks of healthy cities and sustainable
regions. We envision an environmentally sound and socially just Bay Area in which
low-income urban neighborhoods thrive by offering a range of jobs, a mix
of housing types, different kinds of open spaces and choices for
transportation. Urban Ecology uses two major strategies to achieve its
mission -- policy advocacy and neighborhood planning. In neighborhood planning, Urban Ecology works closely with a wide range of
local stakeholders in a given community to identify local issues (such as
unsafe streets or! lack of open spaces), develop community goals, and
craft urban design and policy solutions that can improve the neighborhood.
Urban Ecologys policy advocacy seeks to attract public and private
resources to urban neighborhoods. Our goal with both policy advocacy and
neighborhood planning is to help to transform community-developed
neighborhood plans into built projects that benefit residents by providing
affordable housing, better transportation, safer streets and more green
      spaces.

COMMUNITY ORGNIZER Job Description: Urban Ecology seeks an energetic and creative Community Organizer to help lead neighborhood planning processes in the Bay Area. The
Community Organizer will work closely with Urban Ecologys staff and with
a range of external stakeholders, primarily in low-income communities in
Oakland. The Community Organizer will collaborate closely with volunteers,
with our Urban Designer, and with our advisory committee, which offers
technical expertise on land use and transportation issues.

Responsibilities: The Community Organizer will help Urban Ecology spread the gospel about
the power of urban design and community planning in improving low-income
communities. As such, the ideal candidate will have experience in both
land use and/or transportation planning and grassroots organizing. The Community Organizer will conduct outreach and
recruitment in low-income communities, develop relationships and provide
organizing assistance and training to community groups with whom Urban
      Ecology does neighborhood planning.

POLICY DIRECTOR Job Description: Urban Ecology seeks an experienced and dedicated Policy Director to help
develop and lead a new campaign model that builds off, and complements,
our neighborhood planning work. The Policy Director will work closely with
Urban Ecologys Executive Director to identify priority policy issues at
the regional and municipal levels, develop relationships with other
leading advocacy organizations and to win policies and legislation that
      benefit urban communities.

Responsibilities: The ideal candidate for Policy Director will be a seasoned policy advocate
who understands the ingredients of successful campaigns and can work
effectively and comfortably with a wide range of audiences, including
elected officials and grassroots organizations. Among other
responsibilities, the Policy Director will seerve as Urban Ecologys
principal policy analyst, collaborating with advocacy partners on policy &
strategy development and media strategy, and provide leadership to other
advocacy groups on land use and transportation issue.
