      Accountable Development Program Director
      Job Announcement

      The East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy (EBASE) is at the
      of the economic justice movement in the East Bay. We build coalitions of
      labor unions, community and faith-based organizations to win strategic
      policies that increase incomes for low-wage workers and empower residents
      of low-income communities. EBASE has led winning campaigns for economic
      equity policies at the Port of Oakland and several East Bay cities.

      We are seeking an experienced lead organizer to direct our growing
      "Accountable Development" program. The goals of the program are to hold
      developers and local governments accountable for providing good jobs and
      community benefits in new developments. The Program Director will be
      responsible for leading organizing staff and directing campaigns to win
      Community Benefits Agreements that can include requirements for union jobs

      with living wages and health benefits, first source hiring and job
      programs, affordable housing and neighborhood services such as child care.

      Responsibilities Include:
      * Supervise, train and support organizing staff.
      * Direct campaigns, including setting priorities, developing campaign
      and overseeing tactics.
      * Build and support coalitions for policies to ensure that future
      development benefits low-income residents and low-wage workers.
      * Represent EBASE in negotiations with developers and government
      * Lead EBASE's Accountable Development Team and support the organization
      a whole.
      * Perform and oversee administrative tasks necessary to the program.

      The Program Director is a senior staff position and reports directly to
      EBASE's Co-Directors.

      Required Experience and Abilities:
      * Minimum 3-5 years experience in union, community, neighborhood, or
      political organizing, including experience with directing campaigns.
      * Experience in training and supervising organizers.
      * Excellent ability to plan and manage time and accountability to goals.
      * Willingness to work long hours and weekends.
      * Commitment to organized labor required; labor experience is highly
      * Familiarity with policy advocacy and/or negotiating with public and
      private officials, particularly related to economic development, is highly

      * Willingness to learn and work within EBASE's organizing model.
