      Job Description
      The Design Center for American Urban Landscape and faculty from the
      School of Public Health are collaborating on a grant to measure the
      walkability of environments in the Twin Cities. The research
      fellow(job class 9703) or research specialist (job class 9755) will
      work with the Director of the Design Center, faculty from Public
      Health, and research fellows and assistants, undertaking detailed
      environmental measurements using GIS. Some field work will be
      required.

      The position is for 10 months, although it may be extended to one
      year if separate, unrelated grant funding is obtained for work
      providing technical assistance to Minnesota communities.

      Required Qualifications

      * For the research fellow title, a master's degree with GIS
      coursework is required.
      * For the research specialist title, a bachelor's degree with GIS
      coursework is required. Individual hired as research specialist must
      be in the process of completing a master's degree at the University
      of Minnesota.
      * Excellent familiarity with ArcView 3.x or Arc 8.
      * Current drivers license.

      Desired Qualifications:

      * Master's degree with GIS coursework
      * An interest in interdisciplinary studies, urban issues
      * The ability to work independently.

      Appointment
      The appointment start date is November 1, 2003. This is a 100%-time
      academic professional position. The position is for 10 months,
      although it may be extended to one year if separate, unrelated grant
      funding is obtained for work providing technical assistance to
      Minnesota communities.
