      Associate Planner


      This is the entry level planner position for a very busy transportation
      consulting firm specializing in planning for transit and multimodal
      transit systems in urban and rural settings. Typical projects include:

      * Short Range and Long Range Transit Plans
      * Transit Performance Studies
      * Transportation Demand Management
      * Specialized services for seniors and persons with disabilities
      * Bicycle and pedestrian planning
      * Transportation policy including transportation for livable
      communities, parking policy, and street design.
      * Funding and financial studies including transportation sales tax

      The Associate Planner will have exposure to a wide range of tasks and
      projects, depending on current firm work load. Typical Associate
      responsibilities include collecting and analyzing data, preparing
      statistical and demographic analysis, writing sections or chapters in
      reports, conducting research and preparing proposals. An Associate is
      expected to travel as needed for projects throughout California and the
      US, although travel is not expected to be a dominant component of the job.


      Candidates should have at least a BA/BS in planning, public management or
      related field plus two years of work experience. A masters degree can
      substitute for one year of experience. Potential candidates must
      demonstrate excellent skills in writing, data analysis, oral presentation
      and problem solving and should be energetic self starters. Proficiency
      with spreadsheet and word processing software required; SPSS/Access,
      ArcGIS and other database knowledge a plus. Finalists will be asked to
      demonstrate their writing and presentation skills before a selection


      Starting salary from $45,000 to $50,000 depending on qualifications. All
      employees are paid an hourly rate. Benefits include fully paid health and
      dental insurance, an excellent pre-tax savings program and commuter
