Department of Transportation – Transportation Planning and Project Delivery Division
The Department of Transportation (DOT) maintains and operates the City of San José ’s transportation network of roadways, traffic signals, street lights, bicycle lanes, sidewalks, street trees and landscaping in addition to the public sewer system and storm drains.
San José has adopted bold Envision 2040 General Plan transportation policy goals to be a leading city in the areas of environmental sustainability, innovation and fiscal efficiency. San José DOT’s goal is to provide a transportation system that implements these goals and is safe, efficient, and convenient for all users.
To help support these goals, DOT is currently seeking a highly energetic individual who aspires to contribute to the vibrancy of San José by working with the Transportation Planning Unit. Interns will work on a variety of projects including, but not limited to:
- Working with transportation network models
- Performing traffic analyses
- Acting as a liaison to traffic consultants
- Gathering field data
Qualified candidates must:
- Be comfortable working with quantitative data and using Microsoft Excel
- Have strong communication skills
- Be able to work in a team and independently
- Possess a valid California driver’s license
Other desirable interests or skills include knowledge of transportation engineering and/or planning principles, experience with GIS and/or traffic modeling software tools, and strong technical writing abilities.
An average of 20 hours per week commitment is required.
