- Planning Department Internship (College Level)AC Transit is the Bay Area’s third largest public transit agency providing bus transportation to both Alameda & Contra Costa counties. AC Transit’s Service Development Department has an immediate opening for a College Intern at either the Graduate or undergraduate level. This internship project provides an excellent opportunity for a student with significant coursework in transportation planning, engineering, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), transit planning or a related discipline to work on one or more of the following:• Federal Grant Reports• Strategic Planning• Review of census tract data• Map making• Bus schedule writing, service planning• GIS mapping, maintenance, and spatial analysis• Fieldwork, data collection, and data analysis• Other projects essential to the operation of the transit systemDetails:$12.00 to $16.00 per hr depending upon class level ($12/13 Junior undergrad, $14 Seniorundergrad, $15/16 graduate school)Location:AC Transit General Offices: 1600 Franklin Street, Downtown Oakland. Close to BART and AC Transit bus routes.Work hours:Flexible, based on your class schedule. A commitment of 24 hours per week (average) is required. Additional hours may be available during school breaks or summer recess.Minimum Qualifications:Education: You should be currently enrolled as a Junior, Senior, or graduate student in an applicable field of study at an accredited and recognized college that provides Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs. We will also consider graduate students who are not currently enrolled, but have completed their coursework and are currently pursuing their thesis or other culminating experience.Applicable fields of study include Transportation Planning, City or Urban Planning, Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Engineering, Finance, Business or Economics. Proof ofenrollment and coursework (official transcript) is required. Work samples or coursework may be requested as part of the application evaluation process.Experience: Familiarity with MS Word, Excel. Familiarity with basic GIS software is desirable. Previous professional work experience is not required.Physical Requirements: Must maintain the physical condition necessary to perform tasks in an office setting operating a personal computer, keyboards, and other peripheral equipment.
