      JOB SUMMARY:
      Under general supervision the GIS/Information Specialist applies graphic art, computer, and drafting skills to a variety of projects that involve computer graphics, and general technical design work; produces and updates maps; assists in the preparation of miscellaneous graphics, brochures, reports, ads, and maps for all departments within the Tribe; researches, compiles, stores and analyzes a variety of data for different information systems; and edits, creates, and maintains graphic and tabular data. The position performs a full range of duties with only occasional instruction or assistance. The position works independently, applies well developed graphics and GIS knowledge, and exercises judgment and initiative and is fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Work is normally reviewed only on completion and for overall results.
      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
      The following duties are typical. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address tribal needs and changing tribal practices.
      • Applies a variety of graphic art, computer and drafting skills to a variety of projects that involve computer graphics and general technical design work; utilizes automated mapping and graphic software (including ArcView and ArcGIS) to produce a wide range of computerized maps and reports; designs graphics, including web design and layouts; operates a variety of equipment including digital cameras, copiers, scanners, plotters, graphics equipment, GPS, computers and printers.
      • Creates maps, brochures, logos, posters, banners, signs and miscellaneous graphics using software, for all Tribal departments; updates as necessary.
      • Compiles data for various information systems including library software, data input and maintenance and GIS programs.
      • Assists in creating and updating the following maps including but not limited to: Ancestral Territory base maps, land use maps, cultural sensitivity maps, transportation maps, and gardening plan maps. Provides support for staff in preparing maps and graphics for Tribal Council hearings.
      • Performs research and analysis of geographic, tabular and other data from public or private sources for conversion and input to the GIS and other electronic information systems; provides updated information to external agencies and staff as necessary and maintains privacy regarding confidential maps and sensitive information.
      • Edits, creates and maintains data including necessary software updates; edits computer output for accuracy and makes necessary corrections and revisions.
      • Stays abreast of new and emerging trends and changing technologies in the fields of graphic art and geographic information systems and other information systems; reads pertinent industry publications; attends meetings and training as required.
      • Coordinates with agencies at the local, regional, state and federal level when necessary for data gathering and project implementation.
      • Performs related duties as required. May provide service as needed during off hours, evenings, weekends and holidays. May perform backups and restores.
      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
      Experience and Education:
      Two years of increasingly responsible experience using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and computer graphic applications and a Bachelor's degree in GIS or Earth Science, or related field with coursework in both disciplines (Masters Degree is a plus).
      • Experience in:
      • ArcGIS 10 or newer (intermediate/advanced)
      • Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro (intermediate/advanced)
      • MS Office Professional (intermediate/advanced) and Library inventory software
      • Additional Knowledge preferred but not required:
      • ESRI or non-ESRI GIS products
      • GPS data collection and processing
      • Processing of 3D datasets
      • IT related to hardware and software
      • Website designs, layouts and updates
      • License or Certificate – Possessions of a valid California Class C Driver's License.
      Knowledge of:
      • Principals, methods, techniques, instruments and experience using the latest equipment in developing, drafting and composing maps, graphics and text.
      • Vector and raster images.
      • Database systems maintenance.
      • Geographic Information Systems (G.I.S.) applications and software.
      • Methods and techniques of assembling and compiling data.
      • Principles and practices of good communication and customer service.
      Ability to:
      • Ability to research, interpret, identify, assess or diagnose a variety of instructions or information furnished in written, oral or diagram and compile, analyze and input into geographic information systems data and system.
      • Organize and prioritize workload. Prepare clear and accurate maps and graphics rapidly on short notice. Work within deadlines to complete projects and assignments.
      • Learn new computer applications and apply to work assignments.
      • Demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the Tribe and the community.
      • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
      • Establish and maintain a positive, helpful, constructive attitude and working relationship with other co-workers, clients, Tribal citizens and Tribal Council.
      SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

      • Must be willing to adhere to professional and ethical codes of conduct and to FIGR employment policies.
      • Must successfully clear a criminal history background check.

      • Must possess a valid State Driver's License and maintain such license throughout the duration of employment. Must have a reasonably clean driving record and be eligible for coverage under the Tribe's vehicle insurance policy.

      Preference in hiring is given to: (1) Qualified Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria members; and (2) qualified American Indians in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473.
