      The San Mateo County Transit District serves nearly 100,000 customers each
      weekday on its SamTrans buses, Redi-Wheels paratransit vehicles, Caltrain
      commuter rail cars and shuttles, as well as a robust capital program. The
      Transit District, which is in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, is
      the managing agency for the San Mateo County Transportation Authority.

      Planning and Development is seeking a Planner to be responsible for
      supporting transportation and environmental planning initiatives at the
      District; assisting in the research, analysis, and management of strategic
      and long range planning, policy development and evaluation, and
      transportation planning studies; as well as perform professional planning
      duties as assigned, including environmental and air quality compliance
      activities for bus, rail, and highway programs and projects.



      Working under the Principal Planner, the Planner will prepare or assist in
      the preparation of planning documents and recommendations; research and
      prepare technical analyses and memoranda to support planning functions in
      the department; maintain project databases; respond to requests for
      information and participate in geo-spatial analyses using geographic
      information systems and related analytical tools. The successful candidate
      will evaluate program and project costs and benefits; submit project
      justification and supporting data for management review; participate in the
      environmental evaluation, clearance, and monitoring of agency and public
      comments and policies associated with District plans, programs, and
      projects under the National Environmental Policy Act and California
      Environmental Quality Act and/or with historic preservation requirements.
      In this key role, the candidate will monitor contract performance and
      compliance of consultant and contract service providers; track allocations
      and budgets for projects and programs; provide analytical research on new
      funding opportunities and funding issues; prepare reports and tables,
      summarizing policy and financial information; prepare public presentations
      and materials and coordinate with cities, other regional/local agencies,
      and community groups.
      Desired Skills & Experience

      Qualified candidates should have sufficient education, training and
      experience to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform
      the essential functions of the position. Candidates must have a BS/BA
      degree in Urban Planning, Economics, Geography or other related field, and
      sufficient full-time progressively responsible planning experience, which
      includes environmental and/or transportation planning. Strong computer,
      written, and oral communication skills as well as a valid California driver
      license, with a safe driving record is required.
