We are seeking a Program Specialist to join our Transportation Team to work on its Plugin Electric Vehicle (PEV) and Bike Week initiative. The Program Specialist will focus on implementing 2 PEV grants and the Bike to Work/School program. This includes conducting an extensive PEV public outreach and education campaign, supporting a regional PEV planning process, organizing the Santa Cruz spring and fall Bike to Work/School Day program and Spring Bike Week. The program specialist will also work on expanding Bike/Walk to School Day to a monthly event at 7 local grade schools.
This position also works on funding proposals and coordination of other EA transportation-focused programs.
Ecology Action seeks a team-oriented, talented, energetic, flexible and organized individual to fill the Program Specialist position. The successful candidate will work directly with interns, volunteers, the public, businesses and public agency partners to increase adoption of biking, walking, and PEV transportation.
Duties: Duties include program management (planning, budget, implementation, evaluation & reporting, administrative & invoicing work), volunteer training/supervision and assisting with specific programs and events.
Office work includes computer (spreadsheet, text, and internet work), phone, writing, and managing files.
Continually evolving technical expertise in sustainable transportation program planning, delivery, and assessment.
Complete administrative work including budget and data tracking, reporting and invoicing for all programs
PEV Access & Education Program
Conduct extensive online, social media, mainstream, and grassroots outreach campaign, including 6 workshops and 4 demo days, promoting PEV benefits, rental access, test drives & workshops.
Coordinate with a variety of partners including PEV drivers/experts, public agency staff, PEV car rental/car share companies, PEV auto dealers, and other key stakeholders.
Facilitate and oversee the placement of 4 PEVs in local public rental fleets.
Oversee and maintain regional PEV website
Recruit and manage interns/volunteers to assist with program outreach and delivery.
Bike to Work/School Day program
Plan, promote, deliver and evaluate long running Santa Cruz Bike to Work/School program which includes spring and fall activities at 15 public sites and 45 K-12 grade schools to engage new bike commuters and encourage more frequent bike commuting
Coordinate and manage approximately 100 volunteers and interns to serve breakfast to 5,000 commuters and school children on Bike to Work/School Day.
Solicit donations/annual funding from local businesses and public agencies.
Coordinate with a host of partners including public agency, school, and business staff.
Administer and analyze travel surveys to assess effect of the program
Pilot new Monthly Bike to School Day program at 7 county schools
Design, promote, deliver and evaluate new training workshops for school based volunteers to support their site-specific active transportation efforts.
Assist with other EA Transportation programs and activities as needed
Qualifications: Required Experience and Professional Skills:
Environmental or community program management, planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting.
Experience conducting extensive community outreach/marketing campaigns promoting participation in related issues.
Experience working with a variety of partners including school staff/parents, public agency and business staff.
Experience coordinating volunteers
Undergraduate college degree in the area of Environmental Studies, Social Marketing, Business, Communications, or related field.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel programs, database program experience, social media platforms, and e-mail tools.
Experience working in a fast-paced office (cubicle) environment with a high level of program responsibility.
Ability to work on numerous complex projects and tasks simultaneously while delivering quality results.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills to coordinate with key partners for effective program delivery.
Strong interest and understanding of PEV technology and marketplace as well as bicycle transportation concepts
Ability to develop and manage budgets
Highly organized, quick learner, and detail-oriented with excellent follow through
Must be a problem solver
Self-motivated, energetic, helpful and positive attitude
Computer/online skillsfunctional familiarity with website and mass communication programs: Constant Contact (or equivalent), Facebook, Twitter.
Event planning experience
Spanish language skillsintermediate level or better.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
The majority of work will be conducted in an office environment
Some program delivery requires ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time, and using a bicycle for transportation of program supplies.
