Are you a planner who manages urban planning projects and guides them
through the governmental review/approval process? Or a health planner who
evaluates projects to determine their public health impacts? Or a member
of an advocacy group that focuses on the specific needs of unique
communities and partners with governmental agencies to advocate for the
inclusion of these needs in planning projects? Perhaps you're looking for
a way to bolster existing GIS skills or develop new ones. If any of these
are true, then this workshop is for you. It will present students with a
broad spectrum of components of a "healthy neighborhood" using a
neighborhood-scale analytical approach. Students will see how the tools of
ArcGIS 10.1 can be applied to the study of this topic in the
Bayview/Hunter’s Point - Potrero Hill neighborhoods of San Francisco. We
will identify policy and design strategies to advance health in San
Francisco neighborhoods (e.g. safety, food access, transportation, economic
      opportunities, and social cohesion).

Students will receive a one-year year license of ArcGIS Desktop 10.1,
six-month access to ArcGIS Community Builder Online tools and data,
hands-on lab time, and a Certificate of Completion.
