      Literacy for Environmental Justice (LEJ) is a youth empowerment and
      environmental justice education organization based in the Bayview
      of San Francisco. YPGE has been contracted by the SF Department on the
      Environment to conduct a twelve- month community air monitoring project
      called BAYCAMP. The project will train and employ 3-5 Bayview Hunters
      youth in data collection, analysis, and community outreach. LEJ is an
      opportunity employer.

      Reports to: Executive Director bi-weekly
      Title: Youth Promoting Green Energy Coordinator
      Compensation: $16/hr. at 20 hrs per week plus part-time benefits and
      generous vacation
      Schedule: Must be available 12:30PM-6:30 PM Monday-Thursday, and some
      Start Date: August 15, 2003

      ÿ Organize and implement all aspects of the air monitoring project in
      accordance with annual workplan as developed by project partners
      ÿ Meet quarterly with DoE and project team
      ÿ Recruit, retain and supervise 3-5 Bayview Hunters Point youth interns in
      weekly job training program in partnership with SF The Department on the
      ÿ Administer interns¹ payroll in an organized and timely fashion
      ÿ Adhere to restricted program budgets
      ÿ Develop methods to educate and outreach to community members on issues
      pertaining to air quality and public health
      ÿ Create and facilitate training and group building activities for youth
      ÿ Meet bi-monthly with supervisor and youth interns to plan and evaluate
      ÿ Supervise youth interns; monitor safety and responsible behavior at
      community events
      ÿ Attend regular meetings with LEJ staff and supervisors
      ÿ Aid in program documentation and record keeping.
      ÿ Aid in assessment of intern participation
      ÿ Aid in organizational campaigns/initiatives as requested by staff and
      supervisors, within reasonable time allowances

      Time Allocations:
      35% Community outreach
      20% Direct service to youth
      15% Administration, management, & planning
      15% Collaboration w/ partners
      15% LEJ organization duties

      ÿ Commitment to promoting environmental justice through the processes of
      community organizing
      ÿ Able to work with youth, community, and gov¹t representatives in a
      culturally competent and professional manner
      ÿ Able to act as a supervisor and role-model to teenaged young people.
      ÿ Well- organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
      ÿ Basic computer competency a must. Familiarity with Quark, and web
      programs a plus
      ÿ Teaching or organizing experience (two years)
      ÿ One year prior experience in public health or urban environmental issues
      ÿ Willingness to work in a ?team-oriented¹ environment
      ÿ Readiness to work in a fast-paced, multi-ethnic environment
