The public is invited to celebrate on Friday the completion of the BART
tunnel constructed under Lake Elizabeth in Central Park. The construction
is part of the ongoing BART project that is expected to extend subway
tracks 5.4 miles from the existing Fremont station to a new station in the
      city's Warm Springs district.

The event is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the north end of the
park, at 1320 Stevenson Blvd. It will feature a "subway walk," in which
tour groups consisting of 20 people will take a 10-minute tour through the
tunnel, BART spokeswoman Luna Salaver said.

The tunnel remains an active construction site, so attendees must be at
least 12-years-old and wearing sturdy walking shoes and pants -- high
heels, open-toe shoes, skirts and dresses are prohibited. Attendees will
be escorted down four flights of stairs before touring the tunnel, Salaver
      said.

Each person touring the tunnel will receive a commemorative button that
reads, "I walked the Warm Springs Subway."
