At 7:30 p.m on June 24, author Glenna Matthews will be reading at Barnes &
Noble (3600 Stevens Creek, San Jose) from her book "Silicon Valley, Women,
and the California Dream: Gender, Class, and Opportunity in the Twentieth
      Century" (Stanford University Press, 2003).

About the book (from the publisher's web page):

"What accounts for the growing income inequalities in Silicon Valley,
despite huge technological and economic strides? Why have the
once-powerful labor unions declined in their influence? This book examines
these questions from a fresh perspective: that provided by the history of
women in Silicon Valley in the twentieth century. The author analyzes
industrial transformations, changes in the labor movement, and the role of
successive generations of women workers in a changing economy."
