Throughout the nation, ChangeLab Solutions (formerly Public Health Law
& Policy) works with neighborhoods, cities, and states to transform
communities with laws and policies that create lasting change. Our
unique approach, backed by decades of solid research and proven
results, helps the public and private sectors make communities more
livable, especially for those who are at highest risk because they
have the fewest resources. The planning & policy intern will support
our team of urban planners and lawyers to explore community planning
solutions to increase access to healthy foods and physical activity
through improvements to the built environment. This team develops
tools for training advocates about the relationship between the built
environment and public health, and provides technical assistance for
creating and implementing land use policies that support healthier
      communities.

Duties & Responsibilities: • Provide research and analysis to
strengthen state and local policies to create healthy, sustainable
communities. • Research and writing on a variety of cutting-edge
land use, economic development, food systems, and transportation
policy strategies. • Collect and synthesize a variety of primary and
secondary research sources, including interviews, reports, municipal
codes, general plans and zoning codes and other planning/policy
documents, and academic literature. Desired Qualifications: •
Current or recent graduate student in city and regional planning or
public policy. • Familiarity with land use planning processes,
including transportation, economic development, climate change,
sustainability, and food systems. • Excellent research, analytic,
and writing skills. • Able to translate complex policies into
writing accessible to a layperson audience. • Well-organized and
      detail-oriented. • Available 40 hours/week between July 1st through
September 15th, 2011 (minimum of 10 weeks; start date negotiable.
There may be an option to extend the internship for up to 9 months,
      total.)

      wage is $17.50.
