Great Streets: Building healthy communities one block at a time [image:
Great streets are the community's outdoor living room.
Join us on *Thursday, October 4* at the *Bascom Community Center in San Jose
* to learn about the worlds best streets and the characteristics that make
them great from *Allan Jacobs,* *Professor Emeritus of City & Regional
Planning and Urban Design at UC Berkeley*. Professor
surveyed street users and studied a wide array of urban spaces from around
the world to identify what makes certain streets more memorable and
attractive than others.
This is timely, as the City of San Jose is currently beginning urban
village planning <http://act.greenbelt.org/site/R?i=eVUeLU5LA1tE-8DjnQsQDw>,
focusing on streets such as West San Carlos, South Bascom, and The Alameda.
Streets are places for meeting neighbors, riding your bike, and grabbing
some dinner. When they are designed well, the neighborhood thrives.
and share your own ideas about how San Jose can become a city with great
streets for all!
