      Job Description:

      The Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) is a Council of
      Governments (COG) and regional planning agency for the 101 cities and
      nine counties of the San Francisco Bay Area. For more information,

      The Principal Demographic and Economic Analyst position at the ABAG is
      one of two Principal level research analyst positions. This position
      is responsible for economic and housing projections using complex land
      use analysis, housing production feasibility, economic forecasting,
      and analysis of local planning and development. One of the major
      responsibilities of this position will be to address the implications
      of the region’s upcoming demographic changes on the jobs and housing
      markets, incorporating information from the recent housing crisis,
      regional industrial restructuring, increasing job polarization, and
      the shift in neighborhood qualities and preferences. This research
      will aid in building institutional knowledge essential to further
      support and integrate land use and transportation analysis as well as
      supplement the in-house data and analytical tools for the increasing
      demands of regional planning.

      In addition to the core analytical tasks, the Demographic/Economic
      Research Analyst is expected to make public presentations, produce
      research publications, and convey an understanding of regional
      governance and development challenges. The successful candidate
      should be capable of working as part of a team and have the ability to
      take initiative and exercise good judgment in public sessions. The
      Demographic/Economic Research Analyst reports to the Assistant
      Planning Director.

      Gathering and analyzing economic, demographic, and housing data
      Conducting research, writing reports, and presenting information
      Maintaining communication with related agencies
      Keeping abreast of the most advanced land use analytical tools for
      economic, demographic, and land use projections


      Knowledge of regional economic, demographic, housing, and land use issues
      Understanding of the practical applications of land use models
      Excellent written and verbal communication skills
      Creative problem-solving; good organization and documentation skills
      Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with
      agency partners
      Understanding local housing markets for both market rate and
      affordable housing
      Experience or knowledge of the development entitlement process

      Education and Experience:

      An advanced graduate degree in urban planning, geography, urban
      economics or related field from an accredited college or university
      and a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant professional experience.
      A combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the
      duties of the position will be considered.
      Compensation and Benefits:

      Salary: $7,911 – $9,615 per month

      Pension: Employer Paid CalPERS 2.5% @ 55

      Deferred Compensation: STARS/UTC 457 and/or ICMA-RC Retirement Plan (Voluntary)

      Health and Dental Plans: Two HMO and two PPO Medical Plans, Dental
      Insurance, and VSP Vision. Out-of-pocket contribution may be required
      depending on selected coverage.

      Life Insurance: ABAG Paid coverage equal to 2 times annual salary

      Other Benefits: Public Transit Vouchers and pre-tax options for
      eligible health care and dependent care expenses
