The City of Oakland seeks three interns to assist with a Capacity
Study, which will be the first step in the development of a workforce
development plan for the Oakland Army Base. The study is intended to
provide an understanding of the characteristics of the labor pool,
assess worker capacity, and identify needs for training and support
services in targeted areas of Oakland. These findings will inform the
City's approach to creating training pathways to future job
opportunities for residents. Duties will include:  Collecting and
analyzing Census and Department of Labor/Employment Development
Department data to identify areas of high need within Oakland. 
Working with community partners to develop a short survey to gather
more specific and qualitative information about employment, education,
training, access to services, and barriers to employment. 
Conducting surveys door-to-door and through neighborhood or community
events. The goal is to complete at least 100 surveys.  Conducting
interviews with a cross-section of labor, business, job-training and
community leaders to gather anecdotal information about what changes
could be made to the workforce delivery system to better train and
match residents with employment opportunities. The goal is to complete
10 interviews.  Compiling survey results and drafting a report. The
goal is to complete the Study by December 2012. Applicants need to be
able to work at least 15 hours per week. Interested parties should
send a letter of interest and resume to: Hui Wang at
