      Job Title: Planner

      Monthly Salary Range: $4,078 - $5,483

      As the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the tri-county
      (Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz) Monterey Bay region, the
      Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments (AMBAG) performs a wide
      range of transportation planning activities in the region. AMBAG is
      currently seeking a Planner. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited
      college or university with major course work in public administration,
      business, urban planning, geography, or a related field and a minimum
      of three years of relevant professional experience is required. A
      Master’s degree in urban planning or related field is highly desirable
      and may substitute for up to two years of relevant experience. Paid
      internship experience and professional research experience may be used
      to meet the professional experience requirement.

      The Planner performs a wide variety of professional and technical
      planning assignments. Programs include data and analysis support for
      comprehensive regional level long range plans for transportation,
      smart growth studies, housing trends, land conservation, and
      environmental sustainability.

      It is an exciting time to work at AMBAG. The agency is engaged in a
      very broad based range of projects. The incumbent will be expected to
      assist with conducting research, writing reports and presenting
      information, reviewing policies and legislation and drafting policy
      recommendations, representing AMBAG at various meetings, gathering,
      tabulating data and analyzing the data using a variety of
      methodologies and tools and preparing and/or overseeing the
      preparation of environmental documents.

      Job Title: Geographic Information System (GIS) Coordinator

      Monthly Salary Range: $5,865 - $7,887

      As the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the tri-county
      (Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz) Monterey Bay region, the
      Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments (AMBAG) performs a wide
      range of transportation planning activities in the region. AMBAG is
      currently seeking an experienced GIS Coordinator with a minimum of
      five years experience in relational database management and GIS. A
      Master’s degree may substitute for up to two years of experience.
      Additional skills in statistical analysis, programming languages and
      travel demand forecast modeling are desirable.

      The position provides technical support to the Regional Travel Demand
      Model (RTDM) as well as other analytical assistance to AMBAG projects
      and programs. The GIS Coordinator develops, maintains and improves
      the GIS database; oversees and performs complex, integrated,
      geo-referenced database tasks and spatially oriented work. The GIS
      Coordinator also provides technical and logistical support to the five
      County Central Coast Joint Data Committee (CCJDC). Special projects
      that the incumbent may work on include a Regional Travel Demand Model,
      origin-destination study of commuter activity and the development of a
      GIS based land use model that will support AMBAG modeling needs.

      It is an exciting time to work at AMBAG. The agency is engaged in a
      very broad based range of projects. The incumbent will also be
      expected to assist with data and analysis needs related to the
      development of the greenhouse gas emission reduction strategy in the
      upcoming Metropolitan Transportation Plan update as well as other
      projects. Since many AMBAG activities are grant funded, there are
      many opportunities to apply for grants to broaden the professional
      scope of the position.
