      May 14, 2003

      Assistant Project Manager


      Affordable Housing Associates (AHA) is a nonprofit housing development
      corporation, based in Berkeley, California. AHA has developed 14
      properties consisting of 352 units with 291 units under AHA property
      management. AHA has an additional 150 units in predevelopment, 107 units
      in advanced development, and 35 units currently under construction. We
      are presently working in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. AHA has
      developed the first car-free housing in Downtown Berkeley, the Shattuck
      Senior Homes, and the first affordable live-work project in West Oakland,
      the Adeline Lofts.

      Under the direction of the Project Manager and Executive Director, the
      Assistant Project Manager performs a wide variety of tasks directly
      related to the planning, development and advocacy of affordable housing
      projects from acquisition through construction and occupancy. This
      position is characterized by a high degree of initiative, responsibility,
      accountability and ability to work congenially with a wide variety of
      individuals, community-based organizations and governmental entities.

      Responsibilities:
      · Assists in researching and securing funding sources to support
      feasibility, predevelopment, construction and permanent loan phases of
      development;
      · Assists in preparation of applications and other approvals;
      · Assists in developing project proformas;
      · Serves as a liaison between the organization and the general public, and
      garners community based support for potential projects;
      · Attends city council, council housing committee, or other governmental
      agency department meetings when project specific issues or matters related
      to affordable housing are being discussed;
      · Attends community and AHA Board meetings as required;
      · Undertakes other relevant tasks as may be assigned by Project Manager or
      Executive Director

      Skills:
      · Strong financial and writing skills
      · Degree in development related field or equivalent experience
      · Ability to initiate and maintain successful working relationships
      · Strong communication skills
      · Strong computer knowledge especially in spreadsheet applications

      Qualifications:

      At least one year of housing development experience in the nonprofit
      sector is desirable. Candidates should possess a minimum of a Bachelor's
      degree in Architecture, Business, Planning, Real Estate or a related
      field. Knowledge of nonprofit housing development issues, policies,
      financing and procedures is desirable. The ability to seek creative,
      viable solutions to problems and coordinate many phases of project
      development activities with attention to detail is required.
