      The Town of Woodside is seeking a *Senior Planner *to join the Planning
      Department to perform professional planning duties in current and advanced
      planning.

      *The Town of Woodside. *The Town of Woodside is a rural, residential
      community of approximately 5,300 residents located in San Mateo County,
      within commute distance of both San Francisco and San Jose. Residents of
      Woodside are highly educated and active in local government and are
      committed to maintaining the Town�s rural character.

      *The Organization. *The Town currently has 18 full-time employees in three
      departments: Administration and Finance, Planning, and Public
      Works/Building Regulation. Police and fire services are provided by the
      San Mateo County Sheriff�s Department and the Woodside Fire Protection
      District, respectively. The 2011-12 Town budget is $7.6 million, which
      includes a general fund budget of $5.9 million.

      *The Opportunity. *The Town is seeking a Senior Planner to join the
      Planning Director and her team to perform professional planning duties in
      current and advanced planning. It is anticipated that the Town�s new 2012
      General Plan will be adopted in mid-January 2012, which will require a
      variety of advanced planning projects, such as preparation of a Climate
      Action Plan, and updates to the Residential Design Guidelines, Municipal
      Code, and Area Plans.



      The duties of the Senior Planner include:

      � Preparing analyses of complex residential projects to ensure
      compatibility with the Town�s rural character;

      � Preparing and presenting reports, recommendations, and
      presentations for and to the Architectural and Site Review Board, Planning
      Commission, Town Council, and advisory committees;

      � Performing necessary research and reports for General Plan and
      Municipal Code amendments;

      � Responding to public inquiries at the counter and by phone; and,

      � Assisting in continuously improving development review and
      administrative procedures to facilitate efficient project review.



      The Senior Planner may also oversee outside contractors (e.g., biological
      consultants, historians, special project consultants, etc.), and/or act as
      staff liaison to a Town advisory committee(s).

      *The Ideal Candidate. *The ideal candidate for the Senior Planner position
      is an individual who has at least three years of experience working as a
      planner for a local government, and has an interest in both current and
      advanced planning.

      The candidate will possess:

      � Knowledge of planning and zoning functions and State laws,
      California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and the Subdivision Map Act;



      � Effective communication skills with all project members,
      including contractors, architects, special consultants, applicants, and
      coworkers;

      � Effective presentation skills;

      � Basic to advanced computer skills; and,

      � A proven ability to negotiate conflict.



      A Bachelor�s degree from an accredited college or university with major
      course work in planning or a closely related field is required. A Master�s
      degree in planning or a closely related field and AICP certification is
      desired but not required.

      *Salaries & Benefits. *The salary range for the Senior Planner position is
      $6,918 - $8,494 per month. Additional steps for outstanding performance
      are available. In addition, the Town offers the following benefits:

      RETIREMENT � PERS 2.5% @ 55

      HEALTH INSURANCE � Town pays full coverage for employee and $150 per month
      toward dependent coverage.

      DENTAL AND VISION INSURANCE � Town pays full coverage for employee;
      employee paid coverage for dependents available.

      PERSONAL LEAVE � 24 days per year for up to 5 years of service; 27 days per
      year for between 5 and 10 years of service; 32 days per year for over 10
      years of service.

      ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE � The Senior Planner will be eligible for
      administrative leave.

      HOLIDAYS � 13 days per year (10 set days plus 3 floating holidays).

      The Town also provides life insurance and long- and short-term disability
      benefits.
