      The City of Menlo Park is hiring for the Associate Planner position:

      THE POSITION
      The Associate Planner position offers a unique opportunity for a
      motivated, solutions-oriented individual to work on a variety of
      projects with emphasis in the development review process.

      IMPORTANT ESSENTIAL DUTIES
      Functions as lead project planner for a variety of development
      proposals including: review and analysis of proposals for conformance
      with City policies; interpretation and application of the provisions
      of the General Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and other municipal codes;
      preparation of necessary environmental documents; preparation of
      written reports, including recommendations, for consideration by the
      Planning Commission and City Council; oral presentations to the
      Planning Commission and City Council; coordination of project review
      with other City departments and outside agencies; site inspections;
      and monitoring of project implementation through project construction.
      Research, analysis and development of draft General Plan and Zoning
      Ordinance amendments for Planning Commission and City Council
      consideration. Staffs the public counter and responds to public
      inquiries. Attends meetings of various governmental and community
      organizations. Provides staff support to the Planning Commission and
      City Council. Participates in Advanced and Special Planning projects
      as directed by Chief Planner. Monitors and updates Planning records.

      ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
      Knowledge of: Principles, practices and methods of municipal planning
      and technical support functions; fundamental intent and basic
      provisions of state and federal environmental legislation and working
      knowledge of regional, local and city planning programs and policies;
      and public agency planning regulatory processes.
      Ability to: Interpret, apply and explain planning laws, policies and
      regulations, collect, organize and analyze data, and evaluate complex
      situations, determine a course of action, provide verbal/written
      information and advice to a variety of people and officials,
      coordinate activity to accomplish planning goals; deal effectively
      with the public and project applicants; communicate effectively in
      writing and oral presentations, efficient with computers.
      Experience: 3 years of increasingly responsible full time professional
      planning work.
      Education: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four year
      college or university with major work in planning or related field.
      Master's degree in Planning or a related field may be substituted for
      one year of required experience.
      License: Possession of a Valid California driver's license.
