      Scotts Valley is situated in northern Santa Cruz County and serves as
      a gateway between the Coast and Silicon Valley. Located in the
      picturesque Santa Cruz Mountains, Scotts Valley is only six miles from
      the County’s famous beach and boardwalk. The City of Scotts Valley
      seeks a highly motivated and creative Community Development Director
      who wants to take the next step in their professional development to
      Deputy City Manager. The Community Development Director/Deputy City
      Manager (CDD/DCM) reports to the City Manager and will assist the City
      Manager with the daily management of the City. This position offers a
      variety of interesting and challenging responsibilities. The CDD/DCM
      would act as City Manager in the Manager’s absence. The CDD/DCM will
      be expected to take responsibility for the City’s efforts to maintain
      and improve the economic health of the City. The position will also
      assist in the completion of redevelopment projects and
      responsibilities. The CDD/DCM is also responsible for the current and
      advanced Planning Programs, preparation and maintenance of the General
      Plan, and Code Enforcement.

      The ideal candidate is an experienced administrator who sees the big
      picture and incorporates economic development, housing,
      transportation, and planning issues into projects. This person will be
      expected to bring a high level of professional and technical
      expertise, and well-developed management skills to the job. In
      addition to management of the day-to-day activities of the Planning
      Department, the CDD/DCM is expected to be able to respond to new
      opportunities and to facilitate the development of new business and
      industry, as well as the expansion and retention of existing business
      and industry. Specific competencies should include strong
      interpersonal skills and predisposition for innovation, ability to
      write and communicate verbally with a variety of audiences, skills in
      budgeting, financial and personnel management, and knowledge of
      various state and federal programs.
