      Job Title: Planning Intern

      Description: The Planning Department's primary focus is the design and
      execution of site plans and future construction drawings at Arcosanti
      . Through the design process, we seek to reflect Arcology concepts
      such as mixed use space allocation, households with shared facilities,
      frugality of space, passive solar designs, etc. The Planning
      Department is also responsible for planning and designing restoration
      projects on site, as well as doing some research on alternative
      materials and construction systems.

      In addition to the 5-week Arcosanti workshop program which is required
      for internship candidacy, the program offers hands-on participation in
      the construction and other activities, opportunities to work with
      Paolo Soleri in design development and execution of Arcosanti as well
      as current theoretical projects.

      Location: Located in central Arizona, Arcosanti is the a prototype for
      Paolo Soleri's vision of an arcology. The idea of an arcology is the
      combination of architecture and ecology, a concept first conceived by
      architect Paolo Soleri in the 1950s. Within this urban laboratory
      students of all ages and backgrounds have come to participate in
      workshops where they learn about the theories of Paolo Soleri and gain
      hands on experience in a variety of fields such as construction,
      agriculture, archives, architecture and planning, facilities
      maintenance, or landscaping.
