Strategic Planning Intern

Community and Economic Development Agency Planning and Zoning
The City of Oakland Planning and Zoning Division is seeking an intern
to help staff with long-range planning projects. On-going projects
include updating the City's zoning regulations (Citywide Zoning Update),
Food Policy Reform, the Lake Merritt BART Station Specific Plan, the
Broadway-Valdez Specific Plan, and the West Oakland Specific Plan, among
other projects. The internship provides a great opportunity to learn
about long-range planning at the City.
Skills and Abilities: Minimum qualifications include proficiency with
Microsoft Word and Excel, along with strong graphic and mapping
capabilities. Interns should be comfortable using ArcGIS, which would
include,at a minimum, having skills in basic map design and experience
performing attributeand spatial queries. Advanced GIS skills or advanced
skills with other graphics programs (e.g. Illustrator, Photoshop,
Publisher) is preferred. Interns will be expected to conduct spatial
analysis, prepare maps and graphic diagrams for several on-going
Compensation: $16.27 per hour.
Availability: Interns should be available to work at least 16 hours per
week during regular business hours. Full-time is preferable during the
summer months with the possibility of continuing with a reduced number
of hours during the school semester. Days of the week are flexible.
