      Intern Position
Project: Local Housing Goals to End Homelessness Throughout Alameda
      County
The countywide plan to end homelessness in Alameda County calls for the
development of 15,000 extremely low-income housing units, many of them
with associated support services (supportive housing). The plan does not
address target goals for each of the 14 cities and the County in order to
reach the total unit goal, nor does it specifically break down the total
units by target population in the plan (e.g. chronically homeless single
individuals, homeless people with mental illness, homeless families, etc.)
Some cities have adopted local goals. All cities and the County have
Housing Elements of their General Plans that contain goals related to very
      low-income and extremely low-income housing.
The research project involves gathering information on local housing
goals, past production, units in the pipeline and available financing
resources, and devising alternative formulas for goals per locality in
order to achieve the countywide goals.
The intern will work under supervision of the County of Alameda Housing
Director and will provide data and incorporate feedback from a committee
made up of housing representatives from all 14 cities in Alameda County
      and the County.
Date to be completed: Ideally June 2011 or sooner. Can be flexible
regarding deadline, depending on intern availability.
Location: Office is located in Hayward, but much of the work can be done
      remotely.
      Compensation: $15 hour
