EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Responds to concerns and inquiries from local residents, local officials,
citizen groups and the media regarding sensitive air quality issues and
the related concerns of the community.
Analyzes the concerns of community stakeholders, identifies related social
political issues, and develops strategies and action plans to address the
air quality concerns of the community.
Speaks on behalf of the Air District to various audiences including
students, community clubs, employers as needed.
Determines appropriate forums for interaction with the community; plans
and participates in meetings to discuss community concerns; explains
District decisions, activities and programs.
Facilitates community meetings, including securing venue, meeting
logistics, coordination with appropriate Divisions within the Air District
and acts as moderator when necessary.
Develops materials including brochures, fact sheets, media information,
electronic communications and other informational reference materials.
Coordinates with contractors, including media and community relations
specialists, to ensure effective development, implementation and
management of materials, programs and initiatives.
Public Information Officer I: Bachelor's degree with major coursework in
journalism, mass communications, or a closely related field + 1 year of
Public Information Officer II: In addition to above, 1 year of
professional experience developing and implementing a public relations
program, preferably in an air quality control work setting.
