      THE POSITION: National Housing Specialist
      REPORTS TO: Vice President, National Development Services

      Mercy Housing, Inc. (MHI) was established in 1981 and is headquartered in
      Denver, Colorado. It was originally founded by the Sisters of Mercy of
      Omaha to develop affordable housing for low and moderate income families
      in need. Since its inception, MHI has developed or financed over 37,000
      affordable homes, both rental and single family, serving more than 128,000
      people on any given day. More information on Mercy Housing and its

      MHI currently has nearly 9,000 units of housing in its pipeline, which are
      being developed through its regional offices. Much of Mercy’s portfolio
      is self managed through Mercy Services Corporation (“MSC”), which also
      provides property management services to third party owners. During the
      1980s and 1990s, regional development offices were established in Arizona,
      California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Nebraska and Washington. In 1998,
      Mercy Housing established the Strategic Health Care Partnership (SHCP)
      with seven Catholic health care systems (since expanded to nine) with a
      shared commitment to healthy communities and service to those in need.


      - Responsible for delivering housing consulting services to Mercy
      Housing’s Strategic Health Care Partners (SHCPs) in markets throughout the
      country. In particular, focuses on six Strategic Health Care Partners,
      providing excellent customer service, relationship management, and
      understanding of their housing-related needs.
      - Primary responsibility is producing services such as market assessments
      to fulfill multi-year contracts with SHCPs.
      - Works with other Mercy Housing staff and development offices to achieve
      regional and organizational goals that support Mercy’s SHCPs.
      - Supports and develops other housing initiatives for specific
      populations, such as supportive housing for seniors.


      Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, real
      estate, planning and development, community development, or related;
      Master’s degree preferred.
      Experience: Minimum of five years experience in housing-related
      position in consulting, community relations/fund development, or
      government, with at least some supervisory experience of staff,
      contractors or others. At least three years experience in providing
      housing solutions for very low and low income households is required.
      · Understanding of current affordable housing financing and public
      funding programs.
      · Ability to communicate clearly and relate to a variety of
      diverse individuals and groups, both orally and in writing in language
      understandable to non-housing people.
      · Ability to plan, organize, budget, and coordinate.
      · Work with a participative style of decision-making.
      · Demonstrate consultative skills and proficiency for conceptual
      thinking, motivating, and problem solving.
      · Possesses initiative and the ability to work independently.
      · Ability to achieve results for the organization with and through
      other people utilizing creative and innovative solutions.
      · Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
      · Strong Microsoft Office skills (especially Word and Power Point)
      to create quality written reports and presentations.
      · Travel is 15-20%.
      · Understand and commit to the Mission and Values of Mercy


      1. Conduct community market assessments for Strategic Health Care
      Partners in up to six markets per year, with support from other NDS staff.
      Analyze demographic and other data, and use independent judgment and
      experience to make recommendations to SHCP’s for further action

      2. Provide direct housing consulting services to SHCPs.

      3. Participate with NDS senior staff in business planning and
      performance monitoring

      4. Respond to public policy and funder interests; address health
      care and other stakeholder needs

      5. Provide support to NDS and SHCPs in the formulation, testing,
      and/or modification of housing-based services for populations of interest,
      such as seniors or others as appropriate

      6. Assist in soliciting funder and SHCP commitments, as needed

      7. Maintain active communications and coordination of efforts with
      leading advocacy organizations such as American Association on Homes and
      Services for the Aging, Corporation for Supportive Housing, the National
      Alliance to End Homelessness and the National Low Income Housing Coalition

      8. Participate in planning activities of the organization as a whole
      as requested, which may include internal and external requests for policy
      information, assisting with business planning, development of additional
      consultant service products, etc

      9. Oversee activities and monitor per the performance standards and
      metrics applicable to NDS business center

      10. Represent the organization in a variety of settings and to diverse
