UC Davis' Extension Program is offering a one-day course on downtown
revitalization, scheduled for May 26 in Sacramento, CA.

      Course Description:
Many local governments and business organizations have made downtown
revitalization a high priority because they understand the social,
cultural and economic significance of downtowns to a community as a whole.
Older centers in small and large communities are being reinvented as
places designed for civic, cultural and entertainment events. Suburban
communities have aggressively promoted the creation of new downtowns where
auto-oriented shopping centers once stood. Local governments have also
worked with housing developers to build entire communities around a
      pedestrian-friendly commercial core.
Receive guidance on how to successfully revitalize downtowns in rural and
urban communities as well as create new downtowns in suburban settings.
Discuss the importance of using economic planning, design and
organizational tools and an analysis of necessary steps in the
      revitalization and development process.
      Cost: $290
      AICP Credits: 6
